The Senior Payroller assists in the administration of the payroll process by ensuring the accuracy of payroll data. They calculate payroll adjustments including retroactive payments, ensure compliance with retirement laws and resolve retirement scheme discrepancies.
Payroller Responsibilities
While Payroller responsibilities will vary depending on the business or organisation most Senior Payroll Specialists will be expected to perform most or all of the following functions:
• Calculate and input employee changes into the payroll system.
• Produce an occurrence summary each payroll period for the Finance team to review.
• Ensure pension scheme contributions are processed and submitted within submission deadlines.
• Work with benefits providers to produce a monthly benefits report.
• Produce yearly audits of the payroll department for the Finance Team.
• Make contributions aimed at improving the payroll system.
• Be the point of contact for employees with who have pay-related questions or concerns.
• Produce such reports and information as are needed by members of the Finance team.
Payroller Skills
As is the case with responsibilities, skills will likely vary somewhat from company to company but the following is a typical list of skills:
• 2 years of commercial payroll experience
• Thorough understanding of payroll processes
• Ability to work to solid deadlines
• A detail-orientated personality
• Good problem-solving skills and the ability to work on your own
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work with sensitive, confidential information
Because the Payroller will field questions from employees about their pay or benefits it is important that they have an even temper and a patient manner.
