The Accounts Clerk has numerous responsibilities including keeping up-to-date financial records, reconciling bank statements and helping to prepare reports. They need to be well-versed in accounting software, have a basic understanding of business accounting, be strong in basic maths and be willing and able to work as a member of a team. Accounts Clerk/Trainee Responsibilities
The successful Accounts Clerk candidate will be expected to fulfil most or all of the following responsibilities:
• Prepare and maintain accurate accounting records.
• Prepare ledger postings, bank statements and bank deposits.
• Provide support to senior members of the accounting department.
• Perform key data entry using applicable accounting software.
• Research and restore accounting discrepancies or documentation problems.
• Compile reports or summaries on various aspects of accounting activity.
• Ensure all work is performed using best practices to established accounting standards.
• Reconcile company accounts in an efficient and timely manner.
Different companies and organisations will no doubt have their own set of responsibilities that may include some not mentioned above.
Accounts Clerk/Trainee Skills
In order to qualify as an Accounts Clerk/Trainee the successful candidate will possess most or all of the following skills.
• Familiarity with the latest accounting procedures.
• Competence with popular productivity software including MS Office.
• Competence with all relevant accounting software applications.
• Have at least some experience with spreadsheets and financial reports.
• Have a strong aptitude for numbers.
• Possess a detail-orientated mindset.
• Be well organised and willing to work as a member of the accounting team.
• Have good written and verbal communication skills.
• Having a degree in accounting or a related field is a plus.
In almost all cases the Accounts Clerk/Trainee will be expected to work on-site during normal business hours.
