Accounts Assistant Recruitment: Responsibilities
The primary responsibility of the Accounts Assistant is to provide support to members of the accounting department, particularly the Finance Manager. Whilst the exact list of responsibilities will vary from organisation to organisation the aspiring Accounts Assistant can expect to perform most or all of the following functions:
· Answering calls and responding to mundane accounting related queries.
· Working with spreadsheets, purchase ledgers and sales ledgers.
· Assisting in the preparation of statutory accounts.
· Processing and filing invoices.
· Ensuring that payment amounts and related records are correct.
· Keeping a record of cash transactions.
· Acting as a liaison between the accounting department and 3rd party providers and suppliers.
· Pursuing delinquent accounts and controlling credit.
· Processing expense requests and presenting them to accountants for approval.
Accounts Assistant Qualifications
A degree in a related field is not an absolute requirement to become an Accounts Assistant, but in most cases, such a degree will give the candidate a leg up. In some instances, previous on the job training may be looked upon as sufficient to qualify someone for this position, but it will depend on the type and extent of that training. Ideally, the candidate will possess the following qualifications:
· Degree in Business Studies, Finance, Accounting or Economics.
· 1 year of previous accounting or credit control experience.
· Well-developed administrative skills.
· Ability to work as a member of a team toward a common goal.
· The ability to maintain discretion when working with confidential information.
· A detail-orientated personality with analytical instincts.
· Proficiency in all relevant computer programmes.
· Outstanding communication skills.
